Reading Youth Orchestra (RYO) are delighted to announce their Spring Concert on Saturday 18th March at 7pm in the University of Reading’s Great Hall, RG1 5AQ, raising money for local charity the League of Friends of the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
The orchestra are excited to invite back alumnus Edward Reeve to play Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto, alongside Finlandia by Sibelius. We are also privileged to give the first performance of a new symphony by Alex Illingworth, also a previous Reading Youth Orchestra member. The symphony is in the style of Beethoven and has left orchestra members humming its catchy melodies as they prepare for the concert!
RYO will donate a proportion of the concert revenue to local charity the League of Friends of the Royal Berkshire Hospital. This charity aims to improve the care and comfort of patients, visitors and staff, above and beyond what is funded and provided by the NHS.
Tickets are available by calling 07827 289768.
Prices are: £12 adult, £8 concession, £5 child and £25 family ticket.
Autumn Term – 2016-17 season
New season, welcome back!
We look forward to Reading Youth Orchestra meeting again on Friday 16th September. Doors will be open at the Music Studio (room G01), Building L29 at Reading University’s London Road site from 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start.
We still have places available in the orchestra – leaflets and further information are available on by request through the contact forms on this website.
We look forward to seeing you at the next rehearsal!
How do I find the RYO rehearsal?
Finding your way to the next RYO rehearsal is fairly straightforward. From the Whitegates car park, walk towards the clock tower, turn right through the Cloisters (walkway) and L29 is the second building on your right. Directions to the university campus are available on the Reading University website
RYO is organised by the Friends of RYO committee. The committee for 2016/17 are Mel Le Breuilly, Paul Cox (Music Director), Daniel Freedman (Treasurer), Rachel Newman (Leader), Aneez Abubacker, Luiza Maniu and Julie Newport.
RYO feature in local news
We’ve been lucky this year to have featured in several local news outlets, including interviews with some of our members, publicity for our Spring Concert (read the review here) and a large feature article about the orchestra in #Reading, a new local magazine.
